# Download Center

> The category → product browse flow, and how a delivery reaches a member privately.

The download center is one persistent panel message per server, built around a single button:
**📥 Browse Downloads**. Everything else — categories, products, search, delivery — happens in a
private, ephemeral session only the clicking member can see. The shared panel message itself
never changes when someone browses it.

## The flow

    Discord checks the member's access on the spot — Public, Roles, or Admin Only, whichever this
    server has set. A denied member sees a private "Access denied" message; nothing else happens.

    Enabled products are grouped by category and shown as a dropdown, each option labeled with its
    product count. This stage is paginated at 25 categories per page, so it looks and behaves the
    same whether a server has two categories or fifty.

    Products in the chosen category appear as a dropdown, each with its name and (if set) a short
    description. Also paginated at 25 per page — a catalog of 10,000 products works exactly the
    same as one with a handful.

    The bot resolves the product's storage location and replies with a private delivery message:
    the product's name, description, filename, version if set, who requested it, and either a
    **Download File** link button or the file itself as a Discord attachment — never both, and
    never visible to anyone but the requester.

## Search

**🔍 Search** opens a modal for a name query and searches across every category at once, skipping
the category-picking step entirely. Results page the same way category and product lists do.

## Rate limiting

Delivery is throttled per member — a short burst limit plus a longer rolling window — to deter
scripted abuse of the panel. Limits are enforced durably (not just in memory), so they hold across
a bot restart and can't be bypassed by hammering the button faster than the UI updates. Managers
and the bot owner are exempt. A throttled attempt shows a brief "you're downloading too quickly"
message and does not count against the limit itself.

## What happens when something goes wrong

A product that's been disabled, removed, or is missing its file mid-download fails cleanly with a
private error message rather than a broken button — nothing crashes the session, and the member
can back up and try something else. Every attempt, successful or not, is recorded for
[analytics](/download/commands/administration), and mirrored to your log channel if you've
configured one.
