# vouch.foo

> The web half of Vouch. — public profiles, a marketplace, and a server console, on the same ledger as the bot.

`vouch.foo` is Vouch. on the open web. It is not a mirror of the bot and not a separate
product: it is a second front end onto the same ledger, so a vouch left on the website is the
same row a `/vouch` command creates, and it appears in your Discord server within seconds.

<Note>
  Everything on vouch.foo is optional. A server that never turns it on keeps working exactly as
  before — the bot does not depend on the website for anything.

## One ledger, two front ends

This is the idea the whole thing rests on, and it is worth stating plainly.

Nothing on vouch.foo keeps its own copy of anything. A vouch created on the website runs
through the same anti-abuse engine, the same state machine and the same audit trail as one
created with `/vouch`. A listing created in Discord appears in the web catalogue on its next
read. A report resolved in the browser writes the same case history a moderator would see in
`/vouch-admin`.

Because both sides read and write one set of tables, there is no sync job in either direction
— and therefore nothing that can fall out of step.

The one place the two differ is **publishing to Discord**. The website holds no gateway
connection and never will, so when it does something that should appear in a channel — a vouch
card, a listing card, a modlog line — it commits the change and a job to publish it in the same
transaction. The bot's existing worker posts it. That means the card can be late if Discord is
briefly unreachable, but it cannot be *lost*.

## Signing in

There is no separate password. vouch.foo signs you in with Discord, and your session is a
server-side record that can be revoked — not a token that keeps working until it expires.

Signing in is only needed to *do* things. Reading is free and anonymous: profiles,
leaderboards, the marketplace and server pages all render for a visitor who has never signed
in, which is what makes a link to your record worth sharing.

## Handles

A handle is your address across the whole platform: `vouch.foo/@yourname`. It is global rather
than per-server — your reputation follows you between servers, so your address should too — and
first-come.

Before you claim one, your profile still exists and is still linkable, at
`vouch.foo/u/<your Discord ID>`. That URL keeps working forever; claiming a handle adds a
nicer one rather than replacing it.

<Info>
  Handles are 3–24 characters: letters, numbers, and single underscores. Changing yours frees
  the old one for someone else, so pick one you will keep.
</Info>

## Opting a server out

Public listing is per-server and on by default. Turning it off in `/vouch-admin` removes that
server completely from the public web: no server page, no leaderboard placement, none of its
listings in the catalogue, and no on-site vouching into it.

It does not delete anything or change how the bot behaves inside your server — it only decides
whether the outside world can see it.
