This assumes News Bot is already running and has already joined your server. See Installation & Permissions for what the invite asks for and who can run what once it’s in.
1

Check the commands are there

News Bot doesn’t re-register its slash commands on every restart — that’s a deliberate, infrequent action taken by whoever runs the bot. If /news doesn’t show up yet, ask them to run the owner-only /sync (see Administration).
2

Configure the server

Run /news config to set who’s allowed to manage announcements and where audit events get posted:
Until admin_role is set, only Discord’s Administrator and Manage Messages permissions (plus the bot owner) count. See Configuration for every option.
3

Know the mention default

A brand-new draft — and a guild that hasn’t set default_mention_policy — both start at No Ping. @here, @everyone, and pinging a role are all opt-in, chosen deliberately per announcement or per guild default. Nothing pings anyone by accident.
4

Create your first announcement

Run /news create to open the builder. Fill in a title and body, optionally add media and up to 5 CTA buttons, choose a mention policy, pick target channels, then Publish Now or Schedule. See Drafting & Publishing for how each step works.

After setup

/news history shows everything that’s been drafted, scheduled, or published. The full command reference starts at Announcements.
